TWD- Vice Squad
Sugar, butter, chocolate, caffeine, and alcohol- what could go wrong? That's what I was thinking when I read this week's Tuesdays With Dorie recipe for Tiramisu Cake. Essentially, traditional tiramisu dessert adapted by layering mascarpone laced with espresso powder and brandy, topped with chopped chocolate and over sturdy yellow cake however, my cake was just a wee bit too sturdy. Like door-stopper sturdy. So frustrating.
I'm not sure what happened but even the espresso syrup couldn't moisten this rock, I mean cake. I did love the filling/frosting and you can't go wrong with TJ's espresso pillows for garnish. Maybe once the stench of failure has worn off I will give the recipe another go. In the mean time, for happier tales of success and deliciousness, check out the TWD blogroll.

oh, shoot--i'm so sorry to hear that!
Oh no! I did find the cake a little dry and ... well ... block like. But it moistened up nicely with the syrup. I wonder what happened?
Door stopper sturdy? Dang, that's sturdy, all right. Sorry it didn't work out for you!
Mine was dry also.
Sorry.
So sorry it didn't work out! I must say, I'll always prefer the ladyfinger version! It looks great, though!
Too bad it didn't work out. Your cake looks wonderful.
Too bad the cake didn't work for you.... It does look really good though. I made cupcakes and loved them!
Seriously, I think it needed more syrup. The cake was a little like stale Twinkies.
Ha! Mine was dry and icky too. But thinking when I stop pouting about it I may try it again....but not for quite awhile!
Sorry your cake didnt come out right. It still looks pretty!
Bummer. At least you got a good doorstop out of it! I've always wanted to make Tiramisu cupcakes :)
Oh, too bad as that is a lot of work to have it not come out perfectly wonderful! Hmmmm...well, it looks perfectly wonderful!

Sorry this one was a disappointment! Mine was really dry, too, and i wish I had a better idea of what I did wrong. At least yours looks beautiful!
Sorry this didn't work for you. But if it is really, really sturdy dry it out and use it for a table decoration. (I am such a smart alec!!) But it looks lovely.
Bummer! Sorry it didn't work out for you but definitely try it again. I thought it was yummy and I don't usually like tiramisu.
