Cover Story

Wanna know a dirty little secret? It's not the recipes that make me buy cookbooks- it's the pictures. I'm a sucker for a little food porn. I must check foodgawker at least 5 times a day. But also, for a novice baker like me, it really helps to have photos of what you aspire to make. That is what one of the things makes Baking From My Home To Yours such a great book and there is no food photo I've seen (drooled over) more often than its' cover model,
Devils Food White Out Cake.

A tough act to follow for sure, but I'm relatively pleased with the look of my little 4inch mini cake- and I couldn't have asked for a better ending to Valentine's Day dinner. Forget flowers, nothing says I love you like layers of chocolate and marshmallow.

I love the mini cake! I wish I did that, because I don't know what to do with the leftovers!

I love your mini-cake! I also cut my portions down, and boy am I glad I did --- i would have no self control around this cake.

Aahhh, mini! I cannot stand the cuteness :) Oh, and I buy most of my cookbooks based solely upon pictures. That's how I ended up with BFMHTY :)

Pictures are VERY important! I need the visual for (most of) what I'm making. Your little cake is so cute! Nice job.

I too enjoy pictures in cookbooks and magazines - I wish every recipe they had in Cooking Light had a picture!

Have you checked out www.cooksillustrated.com? You have to pay for their site but the recipes are AMAZING! All with step by step instructions which I love.

I think cookbooks should be required to have pictures of all the recipes :) Thanks so much for the bread advice! I had planned on trying that out next, so good to know! :D
